## Who operates this site

## Reading the website

You can read the story and factual explainers without an account and without accepting optional analytics. We do not ask you to accept this privacy notice as a condition of reading.

## Optional audience and performance analytics

If you choose Accept analytics, we load Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. These help us understand page use and website performance. Rejecting analytics leaves both tools unloaded.

Web Analytics reports information such as pages visited, referring websites, approximate location, browser, operating system, and device type. Vercel describes its reporting as anonymous and aggregated, with a request-derived visitor hash discarded after 24 hours. Speed Insights reports page routes, device and browser information, country, network information, and performance measurements. We do not send custom events or contact-form contents to these tools.

## Remembering your choice

We use browser local storage, rather than an analytics cookie, to remember whether you accepted or rejected analytics. This preference expires after 180 days. You can change it at any time through Analytics settings in the footer. When you withdraw an existing acceptance, the page reloads to stop the loaded tools. Withdrawal does not erase measurements already sent.

If your browser prevents saving the preference, your choice applies to the current page and you may be asked again on another page. Clearing browser storage removes the saved choice.

## Hosting and essential operations

Vercel hosts the site, and Cloudflare provides DNS. Serving and securing the website can involve processing connection information such as IP addresses, request URLs, timestamps, and technical logs. These essential operations occur when you visit, regardless of your analytics choice. Providers may process information outside your country under their service arrangements. ## Contacting us

This site links to the J & K Web Collective contact form in a new tab. The link preselects SI domain enquiry; it does not submit a message. If you complete that form, the agency processes the details you provide to respond to and manage your enquiry, under the privacy information on that website. No enquiry form is hosted on The Real SI.

## Retention and your rights

The consent preference remains in your browser for up to 180 days. Hosting logs and analytics records follow the providers’ applicable retention settings and policies. We do not maintain an account profile for readers on this site.

Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, or information about processing of your personal information, and object to processing or withdraw consent. Contact the email above; we may need enough information to verify and address your request. Anonymous aggregate measurements may not be attributable to you. You may also contact your local data protection authority, including South Africa’s [Information Regulator](https://inforegulator.org.za/).
